Last weekend Karishma Kollipara entered her name into the Illinois State High School Badminton record books. Kollipara is the thrid player in the State Championships 32-year history to win three singles titles. She also helped her school, Hindale Central, to their first title victory.
Karishma Kollipara joins Linda French of York (1979, '81 and '82) and Erin Hois of Downers Grove South's (1998, '00 and '01) as the only badminton players to have won three singles championships.
Online news articles can be found in the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times.
For the first time ever, six Badminton tournaments were scheduled in California on the Memorial Day weekend, four in the Bay Area alone! Smash City hoped the tremendous increase in the popularity of Badminton would support all these simultaneous tournaments. However, all tournaments seem to be experiencing issues given the extended entry deadlines that have been posted. Smash City does not wish to hold, and does not want others to hold, a substandard tournament. Therefore, though Memorial Day weekend has been the Smashing Juniors tradition for many years, Smash City and Tournament Director Norman Chan have made the difficult decision for the good of Badminton to postpone Smashing Juniors this year two weeks to June 7-8. We hope everyone enjoys the remaining events over Memorial Day weekend, as well as supports Smashing Juniors on its new dates.
